Storyline
The plot kicks off when a bizarre disaster strikes a fantasy version of Japan. An evil villain named Oracle Saitaro and his Festival Troops are using a mind-controlling magical festival to take over the entire country. You play as Bakeru, a kind-hearted tanuki who transforms into a human boy. Armed with a magical drum and partnered with a tiny companion named Sun, you must travel across 47 real-world Japanese prefectures to defeat the festival troops. Along the way, you have to free famous folklore heroes like Momotaro who have been brainwashed, turning a classic good-versus-evil setup into a wonderfully wacky, culture-packed road trip.
