Baladins is a delightful, board-game-inspired RPG adventure that blends choose-your-own-adventure storytelling with co-op multiplayer fun, releasing on PC in May 2024. Created by developer Seed by Seed and publisher Armor Games Studios, it packages the joy of a tabletop campaign into brisk, one-hour sessions. The game features an adorable paper-cutout art style and a charming fantasy world, but underneath its cozy exterior lies a clever time-loop mechanic where your heroes are constantly sent back in time by a dragon named Colobra, challenging you to optimize your actions across a repeating six-week timeline.
Storyline
You take on the role of a Baladin, a traveling entertainer and do-gooder exploring the vibrant, mythical land of Gatherac. Your mission is simply to bring joy to the townsfolk and complete various quests, but there is a major catch: an all-powerful dragon continually devours your progress and resets the timeline. Aware of this time loop, your character—chosen from five unique classes like a Dancer or a Luxomancer—must use the knowledge and skills gained from previous loops to solve the world's problems, unravel the mysteries of Gatherac, and ultimately figure out a way to satisfy the dragon before time runs out.
Gaming Experience
The gameplay closely mirrors a digital board game, where every turn requires careful management of limited movement and action points. Whether you are navigating the 3D diorama map, rolling dice for skill checks based on your character's stats, or choosing branching dialogue options, every decision matters within the tight constraints of the time loop. While it is fully playable solo, the experience truly shines as a PC Games party staple for up to four players, as the varied classes encourage you to strategize together, tackle different quests simultaneously, and laugh through the unpredictable consequences of your collective choices.
