This title beautifully mashes together open-world exploration, base-building, and top-down shooter mechanics, wrapping it all up in a gorgeous pixel-art steampunk aesthetic. It offers a totally refreshing and deeply engaging experience that is perfect if you want to explore the skies without being bogged down by overly complex simulation mechanics.
Storyline
The plot drops you into Aspya, a beautifully shattered Earth where humanity now survives on floating islands scattered across a boundless sky. You step into the boots of Eva, a brave young air marshal desperately trying to protect her people. The world is being ripped apart by two massive threats: a ruthless group of human bandits known as Kain's Falcons, and the Swarm, a terrifying horde of bloodthirsty, bug-like monsters. It is a classic tale of a lone hero stepping up to save her homeland, but the vibrant steampunk lore and fascinating world-building keep the narrative feeling fresh as you dive deeper into the dark, mysterious clouds hiding these monstrous threats.
Gaming experience
Playing this game is a wonderfully chaotic loop of high-altitude dogfighting and on-foot destruction. You spend your time piloting a customizable airship across the open skies, engaging in thrilling nautical-style battles against pirate barges. Once you spot an enemy-controlled island, you literally park your ship, use a grappling hook to swing onto the land, and seamlessly transition into a fast-paced, twin-stick top-down shooter. You blast through hordes of bandits with heavily modded shotguns and rocket launchers, liberate the island, and gather resources. You then take all that sweet loot back to your floating Fathership to build farms, upgrade your weapons, and prep for the next wild raid.
