Storyline
The plot is beautifully weird right out of the gate. You play as Red, a graffiti writer who gets his literal head cut off and replaced with a bright red robotic cyberhead. To get his original human head back and figure out who messed him up, Red joins up with the Bomb Rush Crew. Together, you have to skate, dance, and paint your way through the sprawling metropolis of New Amsterdam. Your ultimate goal is to challenge rival gangs, claim all five boroughs, and become the undisputed All City crew, all while dodging a heavily armed police force.
Gaming experience
When it comes to the actual gameplay, riding through the city feels like absolute butter. You can switch between inline skates, skateboards, and BMX bikes, chaining together crazy trick combos to boost your speed and rack up massive scores. The graffiti system is super satisfying too, letting you use simple directional inputs to paint massive murals on the fly. Compared to other movement-based PC games, the cel-shaded world is just a joy to endlessly explore. Add in a head-bobbing soundtrack featuring the iconic Hideki Naganuma, and you get an incredibly addictive rhythm of skating, tagging, and running from the cops that will keep you glued to your monitor.
