Storyline
The plot follows CJ, a hyper-energetic treasure hunter who arrives in the battered town of New Nevaeh looking for a massive magical artifact called a Rune-lens. However, to earn a license to explore the mysterious Runebarrows, she has to run errands for the locals first. She soon teams up with a grumpy, oversized kangaroo mercenary named Garoo and the town’s magic-wielding mayor, Isha. What starts as a simple, quirky treasure hunt full of slice-of-life moments soon unravels into a darker conspiracy hiding beneath the ruins, perfectly setting the stage for the main series.
Gaming experience
Playing this game is incredibly satisfying and easy to jump right into. It features a Metroidvania-style map mixed with punchy, side-scrolling hack-and-slash combat. You can instantly swap between your three characters mid-combo, chaining together fast sword strikes, heavy swings, and magic projectiles. But the real hook of the game is the town-building loop. You dive into gorgeous dungeons, smash monsters, gather resources, and bring them back to rebuild local shops. While the fetch quests can feel a little repetitive at times, there is something deeply rewarding about earning stamps and watching the town visually expand as a direct result of your hard work.
