If you are a fan of retro pixel art and have a soft spot for cyberpunk aesthetics, Scrap Riders is an absolute blast that needs to be on your radar. Standing out as a highly unique mashup among modern PC Games, this indie gem perfectly blends classic point-and-click adventure mechanics with old-school 2D beat 'em up action. It is the perfect title to boot up on a lazy weekend when you just want to laugh at some biting sarcastic humor, solve quirky inventory puzzles, and literally punch your way through a gorgeous, neon-lit wasteland without taking things too seriously.
Storyline
The game drops you into a gritty, post-apocalyptic future where you step into the boots of Rast, a sarcastic smuggler and proud member of the outlaw biker gang known as the Scrap Riders. Life out in the wasteland is already tough, but things quickly go sideways when a degenerate rival faction called the Black Warriors steals some highly valuable cargo right out from under your gang. Accompanied by your trusty robotic sidekick, 50nl, your mission is to travel across the dusty wastelands and the corporate-controlled Uber City to track down the thieves and get your property back. It is a wild, humor-filled ride packed with crazy gang politics and non-stop pop culture references.
Gaming experience
When it comes to the gameplay, it smoothly bounces between brain-teasing exploration and straight-up street brawling. Half the time, you are playing a classic adventure game—walking around, chatting with wacky NPCs, picking up random objects, and figuring out how to combine weird items to unlock new areas. But just when you think it is all talk, the game suddenly shifts into a chaotic, fast-paced beat 'em up. You get to dodge incoming attacks, unleash heavy combos with your fists, manage limited gun ammo, and build up a rage meter to pull off devastating special moves. It is a surprisingly addictive mix that keeps the action feeling totally fresh from start to finish.
