If you are looking for a horror title that will genuinely make your skin crawl, The Mortuary Assistant is a terrifying masterpiece you need to add to your rotation of PC games. Developed by DarkStone Digital, this indie gem brilliantly blends realistic, mundane job simulation with intense supernatural dread. It drops you into a deeply unsettling atmosphere where every shadow feels like a lethal threat. This is not just about running from monsters; it is about trying to keep your cool while performing methodical, gruesome tasks as demonic forces actively try to break your mind.

Storyline

You step into the shoes of Rebecca Owens, a recent graduate starting her night shift at River Fields Mortuary. Things go completely off the rails when your boss locks you inside and reveals a terrifying truth: a demon is trying to possess you. To survive until morning, you must figure out which of the three dead bodies in the morgue is harboring the evil entity. The plot naturally unfolds as you uncover Rebecca’s deeply troubled past and the dark secrets of the mortuary itself. It features multiple endings, making every choice and discovered clue vital to your survival.

Gaming Experience

The gameplay loop is what truly separates this from standard horror PC games. Half the time, you are doing highly detailed mortician work—draining fluids, wiring jaws shut, and mixing embalming chemicals. The other half is pure psychological terror. The hauntings are completely randomized, meaning no two shifts are ever exactly the same. A corpse might suddenly turn its head, or horrifying figures will crawl out of the dark corners of the room. You have to use special sigils to identify the specific demon and burn the correct body before your possession meter maxes out. It is a ridiculously stressful but highly addictive mix of puzzle-solving and panic.
