If you are looking for a fresh tactical challenge for your library of PC games, Capes is a turn-based superhero adventure that definitely deserves your attention. Released by Spitfire Interactive, this indie title breathes new life into the strategy genre by skipping random chance and focusing entirely on clever combat. I wanted to cover this game because it perfectly captures the gritty, underdog vibe of classic comic books while delivering a highly satisfying gameplay loop. Whether you love intense squad-based tactics or just want to lead a ragtag group of vigilantes to victory, this title is an absolute blast to play.

Storyline

The narrative drops you into King City, a grim dystopian metropolis where the supervillains actually won. Two decades ago, they formed an authoritarian regime called The Company and made having superpowers a serious crime. Instead of playing as invincible comic book gods, you take control of a young, underground resistance movement. Led by a grizzled veteran named Doctrine, your ultimate mission is to secretly recruit hidden heroes, build up your rebel faction, and fight back to liberate the city from its oppressive rulers in a high-stakes battle for freedom.

Gaming experience

When it comes to the gameplay, Capes stands out from other tactical PC games by completely ditching random hit percentages. Every attack you make is guaranteed to land, turning the combat into a highly strategic puzzle where positioning and turn order mean everything. You deploy a squad of four heroes into grid-based battles, utilizing their unique powers and awesome team-up abilities to outsmart massive enemy groups. The progression system is super addictive, letting you complete side challenges to earn skill points, level up your growing roster, and unleash devastating ultimate moves to clear the battlefield.
